Didsbury House Wedding Photographer | Manchester Wedding Photography

There’s something I really love about winter weddings at Didsbury House Hotel. You get all the cosy, characterful bits of a beautiful Manchester townhouse, but if the weather decides to behave itself, you can also make the most of the gardens and the gorgeous winter light.
That’s exactly what happened when I photographed Louise and Paul’s wedding at Didsbury House in February.
The morning started off very much like a typical Manchester day - rainy. But, rather wonderfully, the clouds cleared almost as soon as they said “I do”, and we ended up with the most beautiful soft winter sunshine for the rest of the afternoon.

A February wedding at Didsbury House Hotel
Didsbury House is a lovely wedding venue set in a characterful Victorian townhouse in Didsbury, Manchester, with lots of interesting interiors. Big windows, original features, a stunning wooden staircase, and little spaces that work really well for photographs. The venue is also licensed for wedding ceremonies, so you can have your ceremony and celebrations all in one place.
For Louise and Paul, their ceremony took place in the Blue Lounge.
It’s a particularly lovely room for a ceremony, with its large bay window and plenty of natural light. Louise and Paul were married with those big windows behind them, which made for some gorgeous photographs during the ceremony.

Relaxed couple and family photos around Didsbury House Hotel
The front of the house gives you that lovely townhouse backdrop, while the gardens and outdoor spaces give plenty of options for photographs without needing to disappear for long (and miss the champagne!).
For their couple portraits, Louise and Paul and I went for a little wander around the gardens.
This is pretty much how I like to approach couple photos on a wedding day. We walk, chat, have a bit of a laugh and stop whenever I spot something that will make a good photograph.
The gardens at Didsbury House gave us lots to work with, and the soft February sunshine was absolutely gorgeous.
We also made use of one of my favourite features of the venue: the large wooden staircase.
It’s the sort of thing I love looking for at a wedding venue: somewhere that gives you a completely different feel from the outdoor photographs, without having to go anywhere.

A wedding day full of music
Another brilliant part of Louise and Paul’s wedding was the music.
They had Michael Mulholland providing live music throughout the day, and he was there for pretty much every stage of the celebrations.
He played during the ceremony, provided background music while everyone was mingling afterwards, and then later got the party going with his guitar and harmonica.
It was such a great addition to the day and made the whole thing feel really relaxed and sociable from the beginning.
I’m a big fan of live music at weddings anyway, but having someone who can move between those quieter moments and getting everyone up and dancing is particularly good fun.

Didsbury House Hotel wedding photography
From a photography point of view, Didsbury House is a really versatile wedding venue.
You have the character of the Victorian townhouse, the Blue Lounge for ceremonies, the bar and lounge areas for drinks and candid photographs, and outdoor spaces where you can make the most of the light. The venue also has its own Victorian walled terrace and 27 bedrooms, making it possible for couples and guests to stay at the venue too.
And while February gave us some lovely winter light, I can imagine the gardens looking completely different through spring and summer too.
For me, though, one of the best things about photographing a wedding at Didsbury House is that you don’t need to spend your day disappearing off for photographs.
There are plenty of opportunities right there at the venue, which means you can spend more of the day actually being at your wedding.
And that’s exactly how it should be.
