I adore October weddings in Cheshire. The cosy candlelight, rich autumn colours, fairy lights twinkling away while the light slowly dips outside… and Jen & Dom’s wedding at the beautiful The Plough Inn had all of that and more.
Being a Nantwich-based wedding photographer, this wedding venue is one I often pass on my travels, so I was so happy to photograph here!
Morning Preparations at Shellow Lane Lodges
The day began at Shellow Lane Lodges where Jen got ready with her bridal party. The lodges were the perfect calm setting for a slow autumn morning, surrounded by countryside views and those gorgeous October tones beginning to appear outside.
There was such a lovely atmosphere all morning - music on, makeup brushes flying around, cups of tea everywhere, and lots of excited chatting about the day ahead. Jen looked incredible in her Tiffany dress from Bespoke Wedding Boutique, and once she was fully ready, it finally started to feel real.
One of my favourite things about documentary wedding photography is capturing all those little in-between moments that people often forget about afterwards - the nervous smiles, hugs with family, someone steaming a dress in the corner while everyone laughs about something completely unrelated. Those are always the memories that end up meaning the most.

A Cosy Autumn Ceremony at The Plough Inn
Once everyone arrived at The Plough Inn, guests gathered in the gorgeous wooden-beamed ceremony room filled with fairy lights and gorgeous wooden beams. Cosy overload!
The ceremony itself was especially personal because it was led by Jen’s auntie, which made everything feel even more emotional and relaxed. There were lots of laughs throughout, a few happy tears, and such a lovely atmosphere in the room from start to finish.
The Plough Inn is such a brilliant venue for couples wanting a relaxed wedding day with character. Between the exposed beams, warm lighting and countryside surroundings, it works beautifully for documentary-style wedding photography all year round.

Personal Touches Everywhere
Jen and Dom put so much personality into their wedding day, and those details made everything feel so them.
Jen owns her own cake business, so naturally she made their wedding cake herself — which looked incredible — complete with little figures of their pet cats on top. Honestly, I loved that detail so much. It was such a fun reflection of them as a couple and definitely got lots of attention from guests throughout the day.
In the evening, they had Artistic Adventures there drawing the exterior of the Plough Inn, and each guest helped to paint a brick, making it a wonderful keepsake for the couple.
The styling across the whole wedding felt relaxed, creative and personal, with lots of DIY touches and autumn-inspired decor bringing everything together beautifully.

Saxophones, Dancing & Rainy Night Flash Photos
As the evening started, the saxophone player joined the dancefloor alongside the DJ, and everyone properly got going and the party atmosphere kicked in instantly.
These are always some of my favourite moments to photograph because nobody is thinking about the camera anymore — everyone’s just fully in the moment having the best time.
Later in the evening, the rain arrived (very standard October wedding weather in England), but honestly, rain can make wedding photos even better. We headed outside with an umbrella and created some fun creative flash portraits in the rain. Those dramatic night time photos are always worth embracing a bit of wet weather for.
