A Winter Wedding at Rookery Hall

As a wedding photographer based in Nantwich, Cheshire, I’m lucky to work at some of the area's most beautiful venues — and Rookery Hall is definitely one of my favourites. Earlier this year, I had the pleasure of capturing Alex and Stephen’s February wedding at this stunning country house hotel.

Although they currently live in Singapore, Stephen is originally from Cheshire, so they made the journey back to the UK to celebrate with around 35 of their closest family and friends. It was an intimate wedding, which made the day feel incredibly personal and relaxed. I had some lovely chats with guests — for some, it was their first time ever visiting the UK, and they got the full British winter experience! It was cold (very cold!) but dry, and the soft winter light made for some beautiful photos.

The Ceremony

After a fun morning up in the bridal suite, I headed downstairs to capture the main event. The ceremony took place indoors, in a room overlooking Rookery Hall's pretty gardens. Alex and Steve had included a lovely personal touch — both mums took part in a unity candle ceremony. They also had family and friends do emotional readings. After the “I dos,” we headed outside for confetti, then back inside to warm up with drinks and live harp music.

Group Photos and Couple Portraits

We made the most of Rookery Hall’s gorgeous front lawn for some group photos. I then took Alex and Stephen for a walk around the front and back of the venue for some relaxed couple portraits. Despite the chill, they were absolute troopers — and their connection made my job easy. I always keep this part very relaxed - we walk and chat, and it also allows the newlyweds to spend some alone time before getting back to the party.

Evening Fun — and a Surprise Announcement!

After the meal, Alex and Stephen had planned some ice-breaker games for their guests, including quizzes, rock-paper-scissors tournaments, and even a gender reveal guess! It was a really fun part of the day, and spoiler alert - I guessed right in the gender reveal!
